Reid Beck became principal of Draper Park Elementary and Junior High School in 1924. He valued the visual arts and wanted to encourage community involvement in building a collection for Draper.

Children participated by donating their pennies, nickels and dimes earned through farm chores and other work. Businessman Joseph Mickelsen of Draper Poultrymen, Inc. often donated extra dollars to make the acquisition of the artwork possible.

From 1926 until 1955, this wonderful collection grew until it contained 63 pieces of art, including an original Norman Rockwell painting, Ichabod Crane, which was purchased in 1951 from Springville Art Museum at a cost of $800.

All of those pieces are displayed at local elementary and city buildings.
